A bit about me

Just a bit about me to get this thing started. I have lived more than just a few decades, and I have always been active. Forty years ago I played high school football and was a discus thrower for track.

My first excursion to post high school education ended with me getting married. While I was not involved with sports at the time, I did run on my own. I did a few road races and even ran a race with a Frank Shorter and Bill Rodgers, both of whom were olympians (notice I said I ran with them, I did not "compete" with them).

In the military, I was a paratrooper and spent more than one night carrying a 60 pound ruck through the woods. I was a "lean-mean-killing machine."

I studied martial arts and eventually became a 3rd. degree black belt, teaching karate for about a dozen years at the YMCA in Stroudsburg.

The whole time I continued to run. I wanted to be fit enough to enjoy my time with my family. I played football with my kids. I played soccer with my kids, and went hiking in the woods or biking along the trails with my friends and family.

I still run. That picture in my profile is from a race I participated in about a year ago to benefit MS. I ran up 30 Rockefeller Plaza, in what they call a "tower race."

We all die, I don't even want to live forever, but I do want to die healthy. I want to be able to tie my sneakers on the last day of my life. I want to be able to walk without getting winded. I want to live until I die. I don't want to be stuck; stuck in a house and stuck on a couch.

This blog is dedicated to anyone and everyone that wants to wear out, not rust.
